Election Signs

This page summarizes the regulations regarding placement of signs for elections. Please note that regulations for HOA elections are different from local, state, and federal government elections. Please see Westlake Village Municipal Code Sections 9.18.090 and 9.18.100 for details.
Government Elections
- Signs may be placed on public or private property
- Signs may not be placed earlier than 21 days before election day and must be removed within 2 days after election day
- Signs may be no larger than 6 square feet per face and no taller than 5 feet
- On private property, the number signs per property may not exceed the number of offices and measures appearing on the ballot (each sign may advertise more than one candidate or measure)
- On public property, signs must not obstruct vehicle or pedestrian traffic and must not obstruct motorist views or otherwise create a safety hazard
- Additional signs may be placed in conjunction with tables/chairs on public or private property but must be removed when the tables/chairs are removed
- Tables/chairs and related signs on public property may not obstruct vehicle or pedestrian traffic and may not obstruct motorist views or otherwise create a safety hazard
HOA Elections
- Signs may be placed on private property only
- Signs may not be placed on public property, including street medians and parks
- Signs may not be placed earlier than 21 days before ballots are due and must be removed within 2 days after ballots are due
- Signs must be no larger than 6 square feet per face and no taller than 5 feet
