Oak Tree Permits

a permit is required to trim or remove an oak tree or to encroach into the drip line of an oak tree

Oak trees are of significant aesthetic, ecological, and historical value for the City of Westlake Village. The City regulates the maintenance and removal of oak trees to preserve the distinctive character and beauty of the City.

Generally, any trimming or removal of an oak with a trunk diameter of 4 inches or greater requires approval of an Oak Tree Permit. There are limited exceptions for emergencies and minor trimming. A tree report prepared by a certified arborist must be submitted to the City for review to determine whether an Oak Tree Permit is required. Oak Tree Permits must be approved by the City Council prior to any work being conducted.
