3. Is Westlake Village located in Los Angeles County or Ventura County?

This is a tricky question as the greater Westlake Village area, when it was originally developed, spans these two counties. However, the answer is straightforward enough: if you reside in the incorporated area of the City of Westlake Village, you are located in Los Angeles County, and if you reside in the Westlake Village section of Thousand Oaks, your residence is in Ventura County.

4. Do I need a City business license to operate a business in the City of Westlake Village?

The City does not have a business license requirement, however, business owners must check with the City's Planning Department to determine if there are any other requirements. In certain cases, the City of Westlake Village, the County of Los Angeles, the State of California, and/or other public entities may require a particular license and it is the responsibility of the business owner to research and obtain any required license(s).

5. If I would like to get more involved in my City, what opportunities are available?

The City always encourages and welcomes your involvement in civic activities which can take the form of participation on City committees, task forces, volunteer programs like the Disaster Response Team or the Volunteers in Policing Programs, special projects, and other programs. Westlake Village Channel 10 is the City's government access channel.  City Council meetings are shown live on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm.  For a schedule of City Council meeting replays and other Channel 10 programs please click here.  City Council meetings are also streamed live and available on demand on the City website.

8. Does the City publish a newsletter?

The City newsletter is published twelve times a year and mailed to all residents in the City of Westlake Village.   Hard copies are available in City Hall and online versions of the newsletter are available on the website. The City also produces an award winning video newsletter available on the City's website.

14. Does the City have Homeowner's Associations?

All neighborhoods within the City of Westlake Village, with the exception of Southridge Trails, have an established homeowner association (HOA). These associations administer each neighborhood's Covenants, Codes, and Restrictions (CC&R's) which set standards for property maintenance and improvement. These standards are in addition to the City's Municipal Code's requirements, but do not supersede them. Both the City's requirements AND the HOA requirements must be met. Questions regarding your CC&R's should be directed to your HOA board or management company. If you do not know which company manages your HOA, you may obtain this contact information by calling City Hall at 818-706-1613.
