Just when we thought things were moving forward, we took a giant step backward on July 13, with new State Health Orders that forced many businesses to close once again. Here in Westlake Village, this is particularly disheartening because (thankfully) our coronavirus numbers are still low, and most people are doing a very good job of wearing a mask in public and physical distancing. Way to go Westlake Village!
In talking to our residents and business community, I am aware of the toll the pandemic is taking on everyone. Some of you can work at home, but even that is not easy if you have children or other family members to care for. Others have shared that they are very concerned about their businesses, and rightfully so. Many families are also struggling with whether to send their children back to school or to continue with virtual learning. The hardship and uncertainty these issues cause is very difficult to navigate, including for me, your mayor.
I would love to tell you that this will all be over and that we will soon return to normal, but unfortunately, this virus does not seem to be going away anytime soon. But it is vital that we all continue to adhere to the County Health Orders. Please continue your vigilance in wearing a face mask in public, keep up the good hygiene practices, resist the urge to gather in groups, and stay six feet apart from those not in your household. These are small but important things we can all do to prevent the spread of the virus.
There are better days ahead, let us all keep moving forward! And please continue to reach out to the City Council and staff if you have any questions or need help of any kind. All of us are here for you and can be reached at (818) 706-1613 or www.WLV.org.
